French Smiling Angel of Reims Medal
Beautiful bronze Smiling Angel of Reims medal with a depiction on the front taken from the Gothic French statue at the Cathedral at Reims. Signed and designed by the master engraver Ovide Yencesse 1869-1947. On the reverse is an ethereal depiction of Saint Remi chasing the fiery demons out of Reims. The French inscription "Saint Remi Chassant Les Demons Incendiairs de Reims. Bas Relief DV Portail de Saint Sixte" translates to Saint Remi driving out the fiery demons of Rheims. Low relief FD gate of Saint Sixth. Germany bombards and sets fire to the cathedral of Rheims Septembers 1914"
