Antique French Sacred Heart and Mother Mary Medals
This trio of antique French sacred treasures includes two Lourdes (Mother Mary) medallion and a petite Sacred Heart of Jesus medal.
-The trio floats from a new 18K gold plated sterling silver chain (19 inches).
The petite Sacred Heart medal is gold plated and measures .50" x .70"
-The Lourdes medal measures .80" x 1.30" and is composed of sterling silver and rose gold plating in the center. The medal is punchmarked on the loop for silver purity and the reverse is engraved July 8, 1898 along with the original recipient´s intials. The initials appear to be LAM.
- The Lourdes cross is marked on the top of the loop for silver purity and measures.70" x .80".
Our Lady of Lourdes is a Roman Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated in honour of the Marian apparitions that are claimed to have occurred in 1858 in the vicinity of Lourdes in France. The first of these is the apparition of 11 February 1858, when 14 year-old Bernadette Soubirous told her mother that a "lady" spoke to her in the cave of Massabielle while she was gathering firewood with her sister and a friend.
